I agree with John about business cards & the notation. You could also omit your address to be doubly sure no one "just happens to drop by."

Like you, I have a home-based business; however, my studio is "open by appt" for customers as it is set up for retail sales. Because I live in a rural area, I request people to call first.
1) I want to know that someone is coming and who that someone is. [Where did they get my card or see me, etc.]
2) I'm often alone and want the security.
3) It gives me time to clear up the chaos that can happen when a shipment of beads has just come in or I'm packing for/unpacking from a show.
4) Some days I get so busy that I "forget" to get dressed and would hate to have a drop-in customer.

You don't have to apolgize to anyone for having a no-public studio.

Another item to have is a list of all the shows where you will be exhibiting so as to provide folks who are interested in your work with additional opportunities to purchase. Save this list for giving out after the sale or if someone is walking out of your booth without buying but has shown an interest.
